Legacy Endowments
Books and Materials Endowment
In 2004, a million dollar Books and Materials Endowment was established by the Foundation and was a joint effort between the Foundation and Friends of the Sacramento Public Library. As of June 30, 2019 the endowment is valued at $1,241,818 and has distributed $726,042 to the Library.
This endowment makes an annual contribution toward books and materials for the Sacramento Public Library.
The Sacramento Room Endowment
In 2008, the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Public Library Foundation voted to establish an endowment for The Sacramento Room. The Foundation will continue to increase the principal of the endowment in support of the archive. As of June 30, 2019 the endowment is valued at $1,160,959 and has distributed $420,645 to the Library.
This endowment makes an annual contribution toward digitizing segments of the collection including old and rare photographs, which gives customers internet access to segments of the archive.
The Children’s Literacy Endowment
In 2014, the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Public Library Foundation voted to establish an endowment for Children’s Literacy. The Foundation received an unrestricted bequest in the 2014-15 fiscal year and directed the entire gift into the endowment. The Foundation will continue to increase the principal of this endowment in support of Children’s Literacy activities at our libraries. As of June 30, 2019 the endowment is valued at $728,788, not including current pledges, and has made no distributions.
This endowment will make an annual contribution toward the Library’s Summer Reading Program and children’s literacy initiatives in the Library.
While the Children’s Literacy Endowment was initially anticipated to provide in perpetuity support for the Library’s Summer Reading Program, the Sacramento Public Library Authority has recently informed us that the Summer Reading Program is fully funded for the foreseeable future and that the Authority does not wish for the Foundation to raise any funds for it.
The Persian Language Books, Materials, and Programs Endowment
In 2018, a Persian Books, Materials and Program Endowment was established at the Foundation by the Persian Community led by Majid Rahimian – former Foundation board member. As of June 30, 2018 the endowment is valued at $24,361 and has made its first distribution this year of $900 to the Library.
This endowment makes an annual contribution toward Persian language books, materials, and programs at the Sacramento Public Library.
The SPLF Operations Endowment
In 2017, the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Public Library Foundation voted to establish an endowment for Foundation operations with achieved savings. Fundraising experts recommend that non-profit organizations have 25% of their operations covered by endowment interest distributions. Securing the future of your legacy gift requires securing the future of the Foundation. The Foundation receives unrestricted bequests from time to time and have directed portions of those gifts to this endowment. As of June 30, 2019 the endowment is valued at $196,420 and no distributions have been made.
This endowment will make an annual contribution toward the Foundation Operations.
The (your Name) (your direction) Endowment
A minimum threshold of $25,000 is what it takes to initiate your donor-directed endowment for the benefit of the Library and literacy focused initiatives.
